Mobile adult content pioneer joins the 3D doubters.
Yesterday ME reported growing scepticism among the adult film community to the 3D medium.
It had been assumed that the porn biz would exploit the commercial and artistic potential of the tech early – just as it did in VCR, DVD and online.
But a story in Xbiz showed how execs are finding it hard to justify the production costs, and wondering how to make the most of the medium creatively.
Julia Dimambro, CEO of Cherry Media, reminded ME that she's been saying this for ages. Indeed, she penned a piece about it for ME in September.
She wrote of 3D: "You're targeting early adopters who have invested in 3D TV – only a few of which will be potential adult consumers. It’s a small percentage of a small percentage.

"In addition, to get any kind of reasonable 3D effect, you really do need to shoot content specifically. Yes, there are services available where you can adapt your existing portfolio, but from what we have seen, it very rarely works well, so what’s the point?
"In summary, you need a lot of money and resources for a limited market that has a limited shelf-life."
Dimambro says adult providers should look to augmented reality for the next big tech opportunity, citing ideas such as letting the consumer select his favourite porn star and have her do the dance on his lap.
She says: “Although there are still adult companies out there pursuing the 3D bucks, I think the fact that two such commercially proven, adult giants like Vivid and Pink Visual are pulling away from 3D highlights a trend for the future.”
“In Cherry’s opinion, skip 3D and go straight to AR. It will change adult entertainment for ever and generate new revenue opportunities and consumer demand like we haven’t seen for years."

Good one Julia, I think the whole market is realising that for now AR is the way to go. IMO the only time the wallet should come out again, for things like this, is when Virtual Reality is ready for the world, aka Matrix VR that is....
