Mobile wagering continues to generate positive revenues.

Mobile sports wagers now make up 76 per cent of all mobile betting.

The ever-growing revenues generated by mobile gambling are mirrored by the increasing number of people in possession of a smart device, after a recent Ofcom Communications Market Report claimed that 40 per cent of UK adults now own a smartphone, up 13 per cent from 27 per cent last year.

The total mobile gambling market reached EUR 2.2 billion in 2011, and is estimated to reach EUR 5.4 billion in three years, corresponding to an annual growth rate around 19.3 percent.

Mobile casino gambling is also gaining strength in revenues, albeit gradually. Research shows that during the fourth quarter in 2010, mobile casinos made up 9.8 per cent of the total interactive (online included) casino market, and 0.6 per cent of the total (land-based included) casino market in the world.

Experts have predicted that the share of mobile casinos will reach at least 3 per cent of the interactive casino market in 2013, with some of the more optimistic amongst them suggesting 12.9 per cent. Meanwhile, mobile casinos will account for 0.9 per cent in the total global casino market in the same period.

In the US 45 per cent of adults own a smartphone, while in Spain, Germany, France and Italy, the number of adult smartphone owners grew by eight per cent. Furthermore, 44 per cent of EU citizens now own a smartphone.
