Mobile payment application launches in 7,000 stores.
As of today, Starbucks coffee shop customers will be able to pay for their drinks via Square’s Square Wallet mobile payment application, which is set to reach approximately 7,000 stores across the US.
Square Wallet allows people to pay at Starbuck’s via there iPhone, as well as explore local businesses, browse menu information, store hours and transaction history. The introduction of Square Wallet to Starbucks comes in addition to the coffee chain’s own mobile payment applications on iOS and Android, which are used by its customers over two million times each week.

Starbucks was the first national retailer to offer its own mobile payment technology combined with a world-class loyalty program in January 2011, and we have seen a tremendous response from our customers with more than 100 million mobile transactions occurring in our U.S. stores since its launch,” said Adam Brotman, Starbucks chief digital officer. “Starbucks believes in the values and vision of Square, and just three months after announcing our partnership with Square, we are thrilled to make the convenience of paying with the Square Wallet app available to our customers starting today.”
Customers can download Square Wallet to their iOS or Android device to set up an account, which is then linked to their debit or credit card, meaning there is no need to reload a balance. Users then tap ‘pay here’ and scan their QR code
