Gaming firm also expects Android to grow faster in 2013.

Apple’s iOS development platform has seen revenues increase four-fold over the past 12 months, Japanese gaming content and platform provider GREE has said.

The company’s senior vice president of studio operations Anil Dharni claimed that the growing use of the iPad as a gaming device was wone of the key factors behind the increase in revenues.

Speaking to TechCrunch, Dharni said of the iOS development platform: “It's 4x and beyond in terms of revenue [compared to a year ago]."

He also added that, while Google’s Android still has someway to go before catching up with iOS in terms of per user monetisation, he does expect its growth to increase throughout 2013. We feel that Android is going to grow faster this year," he commented.

Furthermore, Dharni noted that Facebook could soon come to prominence as a key distribution channel for mobile developers: "Overall, it's still too early to say but some of the test results that are coming in are pretty good actually. The ROI is definitely there. It will definitely become one of the top channels for user acquisition long-term."

Earlier this week, GREE announced the launch of its $10 million GREE Partners Fund, which will allow the firm to invest an aggregate of $10 million through equity investments of $1 million or more.

At present, the GREE Partners Fund is considering applicants from North and South America.
