New app bridges social networking and messaging for friends in real-time.
RadiumOne has this week launched the second generation and redesigned version of its PingMe Messenger app in the form of PingMe 2.0, allowing users to share messages, pictures and all manner of content in real-time.
The latest version of the app includes a social messaging layer, as well as a question and answer feature that is designed to allow users to initiate a conversation by asking questions and posting responses within groups and across the entire three million-strong PingMe community.
A recent report by Nielsen suggested that time spent on social media in the US across both personal computer and mobile devices grew 37 per cent to reach 121 billion minutes in July 2012, up from 88 billion minutes in July 2011.
These number have been fuelled by mobile devices, with consumers’ time spent using social media mobile apps and mobile websites accounting for 63 per cent of the year-over-year growth. Forty-six percent of social media users claim to use their smartphones to access social media, and 16 per cent say they use social media on a tablet.
