Swiftly send emergency services your location via text message no matter where you are.

Mesh Trading has developed Distress Signal to offer holidaymakers and travellers a safer and worry-free experience when abroad or on the move.

The app uses geolocation to determine a user's whereabouts, enabling them to send the details via text message to local emergency services – police, ambulance, fire brigade – in the event that an incident should occur.

What's more, users don't need to worry about knowing the regional tongue if they're abroad because the app works globally, translating the details depending on the recipient.

David Nurse, MD of Mesh Trading, had the idea for the app when he fell ill in Venice and was unable to speak Italian or know who or where he should call for help.

Nurse, said: "If I was on my own things might not have turned out so well. It was then I had the idea for Distress Signal as I realised that alerting the emergency services could be as quick and easy as sending a text message."

The app is available for Android and iOS and costs £1.49.
