More people would rather their social life suffered in order to stay within a budget.
More than half of Brits are unwilling to give up their mobile or smartphone contracts to save money, reports Leeds Building Society.
The YouGov survey found that a massive 76 per cent of us would not even allow their home broadband services to suffer, even if they were in the depths of financial despair.
The results have displayed the importance of a connected device to our everyday lives. No longer do we see it as a disposable luxury, but in fact an extension of our day-to-day necessities.
Even our social lives are at risk of being put on the back burner before our trusty devices - as 77 per cent said that they are currently cutting back on entertainment such as cinema tickets and eating in restaurants, and 64 per cent are spending less on going out drinking with friends – as the kids say, WTF!
The 25 to 34 year-old age group were least likely to spend less on their smartphone outgoings, where as the 55 and overs were more protective over their home broadband services.
Gary Brook, head of corporate communications at Leeds Building Society, said: “These results indicate that technology in particular, is increasingly being seen as a necessity rather than an avoidable expense by many people.”
The sheer number of people that use a device at home or work, while commuting or even on holiday makes this revelation a slightly less surprising fact – as 81 per cent of teens use a smartphone, 78 per cent of Brits use their mobile abroad and shipments of smartphones recently hit a record 230 million worldwide.
