Open beta launch takes place this month.

GREE recently ramped up the GREE Platform developer kit and added language support for 12 new tongues while it has now integrated HTML5 functionality into the tools, enabling developers to build web apps in addition to native titles.

The new feature will work in all 169 countries and regions that the kit is available in, rolling out in open beta this month, allowing developers to choose the production means that best suit their budget.

The social gaming firm claims to have made the move in order to become truly cross-platform as global smartphone shipments are forecast to exceed 1.9 billion devices by 2017.

In addition to third party considerations, GREE also plans to launch its own in-house social games as web apps and will accept new payment options including PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, JCB, AmEx and up to 166 mobile networks.
