Controversial plan for ISPs to filter adult websites has considerable backing from the public.
A survey commissioned by Recombu Digital for The Telegraph shows that 37 per cent of adults in the UK would support a mandatory block on adult websites.
The Government is currently carrying out a consultation on the matter, which the majority of ISPs oppose vehemently.
The poll of 2,000 adults in the UK found that about 25 percent of respondents join internet service providers in opposing such a plan. A further 18 percent declined to state their position.
Only 6.7 percent of respondents admitted they would ask for porn filters to be removed from their accounts, while 13 percent indicated they would not opt in to see adult materials.
The British government has asked the public whether broadband ISPs should be forced to block any content at all. If consumers approve of automatic blocking, the government also wishes to know what kinds of materials should be blocked and under what circumstances individuals might be allowed to unblock part or all of the restricted material.
This raises questions about censorship, but with more than a third of adults backing mandatory filtering of adult content, anti-porn campaigners have received an unexpected boost.
