Almost one quarter of malware on mobile devices comes from porn websites.

Those of you who like your porn available anytime anywhere might want to take heed of the latest study from web security and optimisation firm Blue Coat, which reveals that almost one quarter of mobile malware comes from porn sites, CNN has reported.

The majority of porn viewers still prefer the old school method of settling down in front of the desktop with a fresh wad of Kleenex to peruse their porn, as opposed to getting their kicks on the go via mobile devices.

However, while less than one per cent of mobile traffic is made up of porn, those who do watch porn on their mobile are at far greater risk of downloading malware than those watching on a PC.  In fact, the Blue Coat report found that porn led to more malware on smartphones and tablets than spam email, malicious websites and fake apps combined.

The security company cited the difficulty in identifying legitimate sites from malicious ones on mobile devices as a core part of the problem.

"No matter how tantalising a link might look on a desktop, there are cues that you shouldn't go there, such as an address that just doesn't look safe," said Hugh Thompson, chief security strategist for Blue Coat. "When you click a link on a mobile phone, it's harder to know what form of Russian roulette they're playing."
